POAC exhibit to feature Gadsby’s artwork

| December 6, 2023 1:00 AM

Pend Oreille Arts Council's ancillary gallery at Umpqua Community Plaza, Third Avenue and Oak Street, is the venue for an amazing exhibit of Lesley Gadsby’s artwork. The public is invited to attend the opening reception Friday, Dec. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Often described as “bold and visually stimulating,” the artwork of Lesley Gadsby will be on exhibit at Pend Oreille Arts Council’s ancillary gallery at Umpqua Bank Community Plaza (Third Avenue and Oak Street) starting Friday, Dec. 8. An artist reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the public is invited.

Named POAC’s Artist of the Year in 2020, Gadsby’s work includes landscapes, figures, and still lifes in oils, acrylics, and encaustics. Her work is colorful and exciting.

“I quit studying art at the University of New Mexico because in the first year we only worked in black and white,” she said. That led her to leave that state to study color and design at the Rudolph Schaffer School of Design in San Francisco.

“I consider myself more of a self-taught artist,” Gadsby said. “I always painted as a child, and my mother thought I was wonderful.” POAC thinks she’s wonderful as well. She’s participated in ArtWalk since moving to the area in the mid-2000s and POAC is thrilled to offer Gadsby this opportunity for a one-person show.

Her work has been purchased by many private patrons, and corporations including Bank of America, Genentech, and VISA. Perhaps one of her paintings will grace the walls of your house.

Pend Oreille Arts Council is excited to be in their new gallery and classroom at 313 North Second Avenue. POAC provides the community with visual and performing arts events as well as educational and cultural experiences for all ages, often at no cost.
