Dec. 7, 1973 – SANTA IS COMING
Santa Claus is coming to town, and he will be riding in style. According to Dan Nelson, Sandpoint Jaycees, Santa will be at the Community Hall at 11 a.m. Saturday. He will arrive on a dog-sled, operated by Dr. Jim Arthurs, Sandpoint. Arthurs will later give children dog-sled rides at City Beach.

CAGIN’ QUEENS LOSE FIRST TILT
The ladies playing competitive basketball at SHS, “The Cagin’ Queens” – were baptized under fire Monday when their first experience with competitive cage maneuvers ended in a loss to a veteran Post Falls squad by a 30-20 score. “I’m not at all unhappy with the girls,” said Coach Holly Aldridge, “I think they did very well considering what they started with.” The SHS team is in its experimental first year and judging from their performances Monday, the sport is here to stay. Starla Rigby led the Queens with 10 points and Monica Travers added six. Janet Snedden and Cindy Vig each added 2 points.

PRICES CUT FOR OLDSTERS
Sandpoint High School Principal Richard Sodorff announced that the high school has a Gold Card pass which admits people 65 and over to SHS activities at no charge. These passes, which are good indefinitely, can be obtained by simply asking for them at the high school office.

Dec. 7, 1948 – HOME FROM WHITWORTH
George Johnson and daughter, Patsy, were at the station Saturday to meet older sister Jacqueline who came for a delayed holiday week end. A graduate nurse employed at the Deaconess, Miss Johnson is completing her college degree at Whitworth.

WINTER ENCAMPMENT AT HOPE
The Lake Pend Oreille area will be the scene of many happy hours for scouts during Christmas vacation. According to plans worked out with Dr. C.C. Wendle, Kaniksu district chairman, and Hi Lyman, camping and activities chairman, the district will host a three-day winter camp at Hope. The Girl Scouts have accepted an invitation to share in the activities. Any registered senior Boy or Girl Scout 15 years of age or older is eligible to attend. The Hope community has made available their school building for sleeping and are preparing a ski slide area, ice skating area, toboggan slide and bobsled run. Hurschell’s Lighthouse will serve delicious meals for the youngsters, beginning with dinner Wednesday evening, Dec. 29, through breakfast Saturday, Jan. 1. The cost will be $6.50 for each scout.

CREAM STATION SOLD TO WILLIAM WALL
C.D. Buckhout will enter the Seattle naval hospital for three operations to remove shrapnel. He has already had 10 such operations. He received his wounds aboard the Luscombe Bay, a carrier escort blown up by the Japanese with the loss of most of the men aboard during the Gilbert Island campaign.
