Schweitzer to remain closed through today
Schweitzer officials announced yesterday evening that crews have decided to keep the mountain closed at least through today due to poor weather conditions.
“Our plan is to extend our current hold on lift and terrain operations through … Thursday, Dec. 7, to allow some water to recede and give our crews a chance to evaluate conditions on the mountain,” officials said on Facebook.
With the warm temperatures and constant rain the past few days, much of the snow on the mountain has been melting, creating uncovered terrain and icy conditions. Usually open seven days a week, Schweitzer officials decided to close the mountain on both Tuesday and Wednesday this week due to these less than optimal conditions.
Officials said they will continue to closely monitor conditions and will reopen the mountain as soon as it is safe to do so.
“As we look ahead in the forecast, we are feeling optimistic with temperatures dropping overnight and precipitation turning to snow as early as tomorrow,” officials said. “At this point, it's too early to tell when we'll be able to reopen for skiing and riding, but know we are doing everything we can to get back up and running.”
