PREP WRESTLING: Duke, Sherrill, Tyler take home individual titles at George Wild
KELLOGG – Sandpoint’s Andrew Duke (126), Shane Sherrill (138), and Jorden Tyler (195) all took home gold in their respective weight classes at the George Wild Invite to lead Sandpoint to a second place finish out of 18 teams on Saturday.
Duke pinned Rook Smith of Flathead (0:16), Jaxon Green of Clearwater Valley (1:50), and defeated Chase Scribner via a major decision (10-1) in order to qualify for the championship match where he pinned Blake Lancaster of Eureka (4:32). Lancaster was 7-0 on the season heading into the championship before being defeated by Duke.
Sherrill pinned Daniel Williams of Flathead (2:00), defeated Landon Tweedy via major decision (18-6), and pinned Kolby Lemmon of Kellogg (3:30); he then cruised to victory in the championship match by pinning Josh Lambertson of Eureka (2:49). In addition to winning his division, Sherrill was also named the 2023 George Wild Tournament's most outstanding wrestler.
