COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Area athletes set new personal bests to start indoor track season
Teagun Holycross, Montana University Track & Field
Priest River’s Teagun Holycross recently opened the indoor track and field season at the Bobcat Preview held at Montana State University. Holycross ran a new personal best time of 6.85 seconds in the 60-meter dash and finished second out of 26 competitors.
Grace Hicks, PLNU Volleyball
Sandpoint alumni Grace Hicks, now a graduate student at Point Loma University (Division II), finished the 2023 season with 135 kills and 44 digs. Hicks had a season-high 15 kills in a win over Biola University; she reached the double-digit kill mark in four games this season. Point Loma finished the season with a 21-7 overall record, which included a 15-game win streak, and set a new NCAA-era program record for wins in a single season. Grace, along with her sister Gabby, also helped the Sea Lions win their first-ever PacWest Conference championship this year.
Hannah Davidson, Utah State Track & Field
Sandpoint’s Hannah Davidson recently ran a new personal best one mile time of 4:56.00 at the 2023 BYU December Invitational. She finished second out of 26 competitors and was just .19 seconds behind Taylor Lovell of BYU, who finished first.
Rusty Lee, Eastern Washington Track & Field
2023 Sandpoint graduate Rusty Lee started off his collegiate career at the 2023 Spokane Invitational where he posted a 60 meter hurdles time of 8.63 seconds. He also competed in the Eagles ‘A’ 4x400 relay which ran a time of 3:27.33 and finished sixth out of 12 teams.
