Dec. 14, 1973 – “MESSIAH” PRESENTATION

Handel’s “Messiah,” a highlight of the Christmas activities in Sandpoint, will be presented Sunday at First Lutheran Church, said Dr. Gene Munce, spokesman for the interdenominational group. Most of the solo parts have been filled by local singers: Judy Rife and Jolie Compton are alto soloists; John Munce is a tenor soloist; Jennifer Munce and Dona Meehan are soprano soloists. Co-conductors of the Sandpoint Community Choir are Dottie Van Ooyen and Marian Ruyle. Musical accompaniment will be provided by the Pend Oreille Chamber Music Ensemble. Munce, who said the performance will be the first part only of the “Messiah,” and will include the “Hallelujah Chorus,” added that the presentation is the group’s Christmas present to the community.

NAME CHANGE FOR BONNER STORE

Purchase of the Bonner store at Kootenai by Claude L. Spangle, who has leased it for the past three years, has been made known. Bonner’s store is a pioneer establishment, operated by the late Franklin S. Bonner for over a quarter century. The store’s name is being changed to the Red & White Stop ‘n Shop. In addition to groceries and meats, the store handles feeds, drug sundries, hardware, and dry goods.
