PREP WRESTLING: Sherrill, Tyler, advance to Day 2 of Tri-State

COEUR d’ALENE — After Day 1 of the Tri-State Invitational at North Idaho College, Sandpoint’s Shane Sherrill (138) and Jorden Tyler (195) are still alive.

In the 138-pound bracket, Sherrill defeated Carson Kline of Reardan via technical fall (4:29, 17-2), pinned Evan McDougle of Pullman (4:29), and won via major decision over Chase Smith of Freeman (12-4) to advance. In the quarterfinals, he fell to Quentin Harding of Orting via pin (5:24). He’ll look to work his way through the rest of the consolation bracket today.

Also still in the 138-pound consolation bracket is Priest River’s Colm McLaimtaig. After receiving a bye in the first round, McLaimtaig pinned Ben Orth of Lakeside (2:33) and pinned Terran Manson of Central Valley (1:47) to reach the quarterfinals where he fell to Daeton Johnson of Chiawana via pin (0:20). 

Sandpoint’s Jorden Tyler (195) is also making his way through his respective consolation bracket in an attempt to grab a third place finish.

Out of the 68-team field, Mead (150.5) and Post Falls (137) are neck-and-neck at the top. Sandpoint sits in 46th (30) and Priest River at 50th (25).

The Tri-State tournament concludes today. The Sandpoint and Priest River girls wrestling teams will also be in action at the Lakeland Girls Tournament in Rathdrum.
