GIRLS

Sandpoint 64, Grangeville 58

MOSCOW – Sandpoint, who trailed by as much as 19 points in the contest, came back in the second half to capture a victory over an undefeated Grangeville team in overtime at ICCU Arena on Thursday night.

It was the third and fourth quarter where the Bulldogs really shined, going on a 25-9 run between the two quarters to get back into the game.

“Grangeville is a really good, veteran, well-coached team, and that is why we scheduled them,” head coach Will Love said. “We knew they were going to give us a challenge – both offensively and defensively – and they did that to us tonight, taking it to us right from the start… In the second half we gave up some points and a couple turnovers right off the bat, but after that we just turned things around. I was really proud of the team for the way they responded and executed tonight.”

Senior Aliya Strock scored a game-high 20 points while freshman Brecken Mire and Jordyn Tomco added 16 each. The Bulldogs were still missing starters Demi Driggs and Karlie Banks; two players they hope to have back next week.

Sandpoint (9-1, 3-0) will look to rest up and get healthy before they open up play against Madison at the East Idaho Holiday Shootout in Idaho Falls on Wednesday.

Sandpoint 57, Kellogg 39

MOSCOW – Sandpoint, fueled by strong second and third quarters and a game-high 25 points from senior Parker Childs, defeated Kellogg in a non-league match at ICCU Arena Thursday night.

Sandpoint outscored the Wildcats 39-15 in the middle two quarters.

“It was a good team win,” head coach Brian Childs said. “We played a lot of our guys tonight and everyone made a contribution. Particularly in the second and third quarter, I thought we did a good job creating turnovers defensively that led to some easy baskets. I thought we did a great job in transition.”

Junior Emerik Jones added 10 points and freshman Knox Williams, seven, for the Bulldogs.

Coach Childs said he believes playing at ICCU Arena tonight was a great experience for both teams.

“It was neat for us and for Kellogg to come down here and play at a facility like this,” coach Childs said. “It was a good night for Sandpoint basketball.”

Sandpoint (4-4) will head to Vancouver, Wash. to play in the Fort Vancouver Holiday Invitational where they will open up against Juanita on Wednesday.
