Stapleton resigns as city administrator
SANDPOINT — Jennifer Stapleton resigned as Sandpoint city administrator Friday, saying she did not want her position to be a distraction to the city's day-to-day operation as it moves forward with a new mayor.
"My decision to resign has been made with deep sadness; however, our incoming mayor ran on a clear platform to serve without a city administrator and remove me from my position," Stapleton wrote in her resignation letter. "That would take a majority vote of the council. Rather than allow this to be a distraction to the business and success of the city, I have chosen to resign and wish him success in his term."
Stapleton's resignation takes effect at the end of the day on Jan. 3.
Stapleton thanked city officials for choosing her as the city's first administrator, saying it was her greatest honor and privilege to work for the city and to serve the Sandpoint community.
She said she wanted to express her gratitude to the entire city staff for their support and collaboration and said she has enjoyed working with each of them. She is proud of the things they accomplished together and has no doubt they will continue to serve the city well.
"I deeply respect every one of you and admire your commitment and dedication to our community and staff," she wrote.
