Dec. 24, 1948 – SLEIGH RIDES WITH SANTA
Most popular attraction in Sandpoint Saturday was the sleigh ride with Santa Claus. At the set hour, a large crowd of youngsters gathered at the corner of Second and Main. As many as could jam onto the sled jumped aboard and started off, only to have a runner break on the first trip. The sled was back in commission in an hour and as if by magic, children began to appear. Santa said the sled was packed full on every load. One shopper remarked, “It sure looked fine to see those happy kids riding along with Santa and singing Christmas songs.” The Chamber of Commerce retail merchants committee arranged the rides. The sled was furnished by C.W. Lang and the team by W.D. Lewis, who also acted as driver.

HEAVY SNOW AT LIBBY
Nick Radan, an old-time resident of Sandpoint, now working at Libby, Mont., was in the city on his way to Spokane on Saturday. “There are three and a half feet of snow in Libby, where I work,” he said. “Give me Sandpoint any time.”
