Dec. 26, 1973 – GRANT FOR FAIRGROUNDS

A $142,000 Economic Development grant has been awarded for construction of new facilities at the Bonner County Fairgrounds, which will employ 15 area unemployed and under-employed workers. It will include a display barn, bleachers, restrooms, and food service facilities. Show ring lighting will also be installed. Work will begin sometime in April.

CLARK FORK VFW ESSAY WINNERS

Clark Fork V.F.W. Post and its Auxiliary hosted a dinner Friday honoring winners of this year’s Voice of Democracy Essay contest. Post Commander is Ernest McKibben. Harold Rounsville, the post essay contest chairman, presented Lee Keller a $25 check for her first place entry and $15 to Gail Erickson for second place. Third place winner Liz Stagner could not attend to accept her $10 check. The topic of this year’s contest was “My Responsibility as a Citizen.”

Dec. 26, 1948 – HOME FOR CHRISTMAS

The following college students have been seen at home for Christmas: Gus Verdal, Darrell Congdon, Hardy Lyons and Patsy Patton from the University of Idaho, and Barbara Weaver from Lewiston.

SPEND XMAS AT HOME

Ralph Walter, who attends Eastern Washington College of Education at Cheney, is spending the Christmas holiday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Walter of Kootenai. Dick Stockman, who is also attending EWCE, is spending the holiday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Stockman, of Kootenai.

NURSES ENJOY CAROL PARTY

The Christmas caroling party given Monday by the registered nurses of Sandpoint was a huge success, the president, Mrs. Ole Holum, reported. The nurses and their husbands gathered at the Community hospital, where carols were sung. They adjourned to the dining hall to enjoy a hearty Oyster stew supper. An impromptu program added a great deal of hilarity to the occasion. A gift exchange closed the evening. Members of the hospital staff were invited guests.

TWO PRIZE WINNERS IN CONTEST

Among the 100 fifth prize winners named by Centennial Flouring Mills in its recent big “Double Your Win” contest are Richard R. Oswalt, recently of Sandpoint, and Mrs. Clarinda Thomas of Laclede. Chapman’s Food Mart, Sandpoint, and H.F. Thomas grocery, Laclede, also figured in the prize awards.
