Floyd Kallio

| February 2, 2023 1:00 AM

Floyd Joseph Kallio, our sweet brother, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, in Sagle, Idaho, after a long battle with cancer.

He fought the disease with all his strength for five years with courage and humor.

Floyd was born Dec. 31, 1955, in Sandpoint, Idaho, to William and Ruth Kallio. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in the class of 1974.

As a youngster, Floyd spent many spring days fishing on Lake Pend Oreille with his brother and father, hand-lining for kokanee. In later years, he would take his boat to Lake Koocanusa near Libby, Mont., to catch the big kokanee and enjoy the solitude and beauty of the outdoors with his fishing buddies.

He loved sports, played youth baseball during the summer and was part of a team of good friends that won a Pony League Championship in 1972. He was a diehard Mariners fan and enjoyed seeing them finally make the playoffs last season.

As an adult, Floyd worked in this region for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a track inspector. He was also a stone mason and did tile work with master craftsman Larry Vest.

He was a kind and gentle soul and a loyal and generous friend to many. He loved fishing and being outdoors, but was happiest sharing a beer and a game of pool with friends. Rack 'em up, Floyd. We’ll miss you.

He is survived by his brother, Frank (Sharon) Kallio of Post Falls; his sister, Mary (Joel) Fisher of Hope; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cecelia Spracklen.

Floyd’s family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Kootenai Cancer Center in Post Falls and Kootenai Health Special Services for providing Floyd with excellent and compassionate care.

Private family services have been held.
