Bonnie (Russell) Boettger, 91

| February 3, 2023 1:00 AM

Bonnie Jean (Russell) Boettger, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, in Tacoma, Wash. She was born in Everett, Wash., on Feb. 3, 1931, to Alex Russell and Mae Russell (VanDerPas).

Memorial services and reception will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at Mountain View Funeral Home’s Aspen Chapel in Lakewood, Wash.

Bonnie grew up on a farm in Sandpoint, Idaho, where she helped raise foxes and take care of her family’s homestead. She graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1950. She met her husband, James Boettger, at a dance hall in Coeur d’Alene and they were married Sept. 13, 1953.

In 1967, James retired from the Air Force, and they moved to Tacoma, where they raised their three boys. Bonnie was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed pussy willows, planting flowers, feeding the birds on her veranda, watching the Seahawks and, most importantly, spending time with family. She always said, “family is everything.” A proud Scottish descendant, she was delighted anytime she heard bagpipes. She never turned down a game of bingo (which she often won!). Bonnie was known most for her kind heart, her stories of life growing up on the farm, finding four-leaf clovers and the best fudge brownies this side of anywhere.

She is survived and missed by her two sons, Dan Boettger of Okanagan, Wash., and Rod Boettger of Spanaway, Wash.; seven grandchildren, J.J., Nick, Alyssa, Gabe, Nachole, Travis and Sam; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and Ross Russell; sister Vivian Russell/Hooper; and many more loving relatives.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, son Ken Boettger, and brothers, Jim and Dave Russell.

Mountain View Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Please visit Bonnie’s online memorial at www.mountainviewtacoma.com/obituaries/Bonnie-Russell-Boettger/TributeWall.
