Lee scores 22, not enough for Bulldog win
Sandpoint boys basketball team played Lewiston at home on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs fought hard but lost 58-48.
Shots weren’t dropping for the Bulldogs and the Bengals got off to a quick start.
“We had a hard time getting out of the gate today,” head coach Brian Childs said. “We really struggled to find that spark and energy to start the game.”
Sandpoint was down 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Rusty Lee helped the Bulldogs claw their way back with six points in the second and 22 overall. Carson Way led Lewiston with 21 points.
Sandpoint remained down 26-17 at halftime.
“I felt fortunate to see where the score was,” Childs said.
Sandpoint came out hot in the second half and had Lewiston on their heels. Lee scored seven points and the Bulldogs held Lewiston to 13.
The Bulldogs trailed 39-32 at the end of the third.
Sandpoint kept the momentum heading into the final quarter. Lee scored another seven points for the Bulldogs and Max Frank chimed in with five.
“We made a run in the third quarter and then the first two to three minutes of the fourth quarter got away from us,” Childs said. “We were right there, a seven point game, a little but of momentum, and they just took it right away.”
Sandpoint lost 58-48 and will play Post Fall at home next Wednesday, Feb. 8th.
“It's good for us to play a bigger more experienced team to help get us ready for the meat grinder next week,” Childs said.
