Bob Simmons, 83

| February 8, 2023 1:00 AM

Robert “Bob” Leland Simmons, 83, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, at his home in Sagle, Idaho.

Bob was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Vallejo, Calif., to Lawrence and Clara Simmons. He was the youngest of eight. He married Barbara June Kidder on Dec. 18, 1960, in Monterey, Calif. They later moved to Solano County. They had one child, Robin Lee, born in Oakland, Calif., in 1962.

Bob began a career fixing large machinery after receiving a technical degree through a union apprenticeship. On the advice of his sister, who lived in Colorado, the family eventually moved to Aspen, Colo., and they became lodge managers before moving to the Sandpoint area in 1971. They bought property in the Sagle area.

Bob and Barbara divorced in 1973 and Bob left Idaho in 1981 for employment in California before returning to Idaho in 1991. Bob was a handyman who enjoyed sailing with his good friend, Frank Boss. He claimed to have never owned a TV and was an avid library and public radio patron. His decline in health was quick and his wish of spending his last days at home was achieved with the help of hospice, volunteers and close neighbors.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Robin Nagano, living in Miskolc, Hungary, since 2001. He was preceded in death by his parents; ex-wife, Barbara, and all older siblings. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the East Bonner County Library District.
