The horror of war seen by all

It was 2003, the war raged from Kuwait to Baghdad.

There were American soldiers killed on the way up to Baghdad, but not in huge numbers. However, from 2003 to 2010, almost 5,000 American soldiers were killed.

In 2003, on the way to Baghdad, the advancing American troops were preceded by massive artillery shelling of enemy troops along with relentless aircraft bombing and strafing. An general idea of all the Iraqis killed is from the book "Operation Kill," as follows: Corpses of the Iraq attackers who fell in the road had been run over repeatedly by tracked vehicles. They were flattened, with their entrails squished out. There were shot-up cars and trucks with bodies hanging over the edges.

Troops driving past saw smashed-up and charred human remains sitting upright in the windows. There was a dead man laying on the road with no head and a little girl, about 3 or 4 years old, lying on her back with no legs.

It is estimated that over 6,000 Iraqis were killed in the push to Baghdad. Thus, the horrors of war.

For those sitting at home to comprehend what goes on in war is very difficult.

No wonder so many soldiers and people in war have PTSD.
