Pend d’Oreille Review
Feb. 9, 1923 – ICE HARVEST STARTED
The annual ice harvest started Monday, a month behind last year’s schedule, when Sandpoint Ice & Fuel began cutting inside the Humbird booms. The Pend d’Oreille creamery started its cut nearby on Tuesday. The ice is about 10 inches thick but less than half of it is “clear ice,” the remainder being formed from melting snow upon the first freeze across the pond. After the first day’s operation, the Sandpoint Ice & Fuel company slacked up its cut because of poor quality while John Selle covered the territory between here and Spokane in search of a better quality for the harvest. The Ice & Fuel company, which put up about 800 tons last year, plans to store at least 1000 tons this year.

ACTION OF COMMISSIONERS HIT

There was but little discussion and the club passed a motion to protest their action without a dissenting vote.
