Pettit, Laybourne, Dorrel to play at next level
Sandpoint High School football players Parker Pettit, Carson Laybourne and Wylan Dorrel all recently signed their official letters of intent to play football at the collegiate level.
Laybourne and Dorrel will head to Central Washington University to play O-line and Pettit will carry on to play quarterback at MIT.
“I am excited for the challenge of playing against the best,” Laybourne said. “I would like to thank coach Yarno for teaching me the past four years and helping me get this opportunity to play at the next level.”
“I am thankful for my Family, coach Knowles, Yarno, Theilbahr, all my teammates, fans, and God for making all things possible,” Dorrel said.
Pettit will graduate as the top-rated quarterback in the history of Sandpoint High School and has been ranked 81st nationally by the largest QB ranking system qbhitlist.com.
“This would not have been possible without the support of those who have been with me every step of the way,” Pettit said.
Career stats include 6,271 total yards, 60% completion ratio, 45 passing TDs, and 19 rushing TDs. Pettit led the Bulldogs to seven playoff wins, was named two-time IEL Player of the Year and holds several school records.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play football and further my academic career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,” Pettit said.
Most impressively, Pettit has been able to balance his academic and athletic flawlessly. He achieved a 1520 on the SATs and is on track to graduate first in his class with a 4.4 GPA.
“I would like to thank my parents, friends, coaches and teachers for pushing me to be better and helping me to succeed,” Pettit said. “I’m extremely grateful to have such a strong support system and to have the opportunity to represent them at MIT.”
