The Clark Fork Wampus Cats, seeded eighth, lost to the Deary Mustangs, seeded first, in the first round of the 1A DII State Championship Tournament on Thursday night.

Emily Meyers led the way with seven points for the Wampus Cats but the Mustangs walked away with the win 42-20.

This is the first appearance Clark Fork has made at state since 2012. Last year the team won the district title but lost in a state play-in game to a District II team. With Deary having the best overall winning percentage among 1A Division II teams, the Wampus Cats knew this would be a battle.

Clark Fork shot 42.9% from the free throw line but completed only 27.6% from inside. Head coach Jordan Adams has worked the girls hard throughout the season to get them ready for these very games.

The last time the Wampus Cats won a game at state was in 2010. Adams is hoping to break that streak when her team plays Leadore today at 6 p.m.
