Jan. 3, 1973 — ANNIVERSARY NOTED
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wood of Gold Creek celebrated their silver wedding anniversary Dec. 30 with a party in the Selle Grange hall. Chatterbee Club and the couple’s daughters-in-law, Mrs. Steve Wood and Mrs. Dan Wood, were hostesses. Mrs. Don Lund baked and decorated the blue and white anniversary cake, served by Mrs. Dan Wood. Mrs. Steve Wood poured punch, Miss Penny Stumpf poured coffee and Mrs. Vernon Shadel had charge of the guest book. The large crowd spent the evening dancing to the music of Art Burnett, Frances Poelstra, Richard Martin and Bob and Kenneth Murray.

KIWANIS TO DECIDE FATE OF LODGE
Sandpoint Kiwanis Club will soon make a decision on the old lodge building at Camp Stidwell. The club has been fighting a battle with vandals, and is losing ground in efforts to improve the camp. Last summer Kiwanis again spent time and money to make the camp more useable, but someone stole electrical panel breakers. The old lodge’s cast iron cook stove was was filled with wet concrete. The solution may be to demolish the old packrat-infested building and replace it sometime with a roof type shelter on pole supports. It is said that removal of the old lodge will not have a bearing on use of the camp. The basic services provided to campers are trees to camp under, camp fire fuel, drinking and cooking water, and tables and benches. The matter has been discussed several times and the fate of the old building will be decided by a general vote Jan. 29.

Mrs. N.A. Carothers, who lives near Mirror lake, on a sleighride Christmas night fell backward from her seat in the sleigh and sustained a wrist fracture.
A million eastern brook trout fry arrived recently at the hatchery from Kingston, Mass. They came during the height of the recent blizzard and had to be taken care of at once. Mr. Garrison found the fry in splendid condition even after eight days en route.
The Gem is giving a benefit for the Camp Fire Girls on Friday, Mary Pickford in “Love Light.” Fifty seventh and eighth grade girls are selling tickets, working to earn money for their expenses. They hope the public will be generous in supporting them.

LOCAL MENTION FROM LACLEDE
Laclede is having one new house to take the place of those being moved to Dover, the GN having just built a cottage for their automatic block signalman.
The operation of the Laclede ferry, which went out of commission during the cold snap, was resumed Thursday when the repairs were completed. The people across the river were able to get out to Laclede for the first time in over two weeks.
