Library hosting spooky stories
October isn’t the only month with dibs on spookiness. January 2023 claims an ominous Friday the 13th, bringing with it a midwinter fright-fest to ring in the new year… With terror!
As a child, I fondly remember reading Scary Stories to Tell In The Dark by Alvin Schwartz. The bone-chilling horror stories and unsettling illustrations would always send me to bed with a heart full of excitement and fear. As I grew older, I gained a love for the writings of Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, and H.P. Lovecraft. Why be warmed by lovey-dovey romance when you can be rattled to the very bone by inescapable fear?
If you, like many of us, are still itching for a bit more of the macabre after binging all of Netflix’s "Wednesday" in one sitting, you should check out the library’s Edgar Allan Poe display upstairs by the elevator. Wear your finest red masque and bid winter boredom and restlessness a grim farewell as you pick up the finest gothic literature compendium we have to offer.
Do you still have an insatiable appetite for dread? Don your best yellow cloak and visit the library on Friday the 13th at 5:30 to listen to some spooktacular stories shared by local storyteller and retired teacher, Jeannie Lyon. All ages are welcome, though these stories are geared toward third graders and beyond.
We look forward to floating with you down here.
