Sandpoint hosted Priest River on Saturday evening. It was a close match but Sandpoint clinched the win 65-56 despite a few key players missing from the lineup.

For the Bulldogs, it was the Parker show with 28 points coming from Parker Childs and another 15 from Parker Pettit.

“Both Parkers really stepped up and led us today,” Sandpoint head coach Brian Childs said. “This is the best game Parker Pettit has had this year. He made three hustle plays that really changed the momentum."

Sandpoint had the lead 19-12 heading into the second quarter.

Zach Engleson scored five points in the second for the Spartans and nine overall. Jace Yount scored nine and led Priest River with 20 points total.

“Jace dominated the glass and the inside scoring-wise. He got to the line which helped him,” Priest River head coach Jaden Barrett said.

The Spartans held Sandpoint to seven points and were up 31-26 at the end of the second quarter.

The Bulldogs fired shot after shot in the third quarter. Childs had 10 points, Pettit scored six, and James Bopp added four.

“It’s amazing what happens when we make shots,” Childs said. “We guarded a bit better. Everything’s easier when you’re scoring.”

Sandpoint held Priest River to seven points and took the lead 46-38 heading into the final quarter.

Fast, aggressive, and evenly matched was the name of the game in the fourth quarter.

Childs scored another nine points. Emerik Jones hit six and stepped up on defense. The Bulldogs were 8 for 13 at the free-throw line.

“We went through a drought in the second quarter and let Priest River have the momentum,” Childs said. “We were able to get it back in the third and knock down enough free throws in the fourth to hang on.”

The Spartans did everything they could to get the lead back. Sandpoint came away on top 65-56.

Sandpoint plays at home for a league game against Moscow on Tuesday night. Priest River plays against St. Maries.
