City seeks input on housing, neighborhoods
SANDPOINT — What do you want Sandpoint's neighborhoods to look like?
Through a survey on its website and Facebook page, the city of Sandpoint is seeking input on housing and neighborhoods. The survey is live through Jan. 25.
The survey is an additional outreach effort on Comp Plan workshops held by Sandpoint officials in October. The workshops covered everything from current regulations to opportunities for housing solutions and sought input on views on in-fill housing.
Options allowed by the city include accessory dwelling units, cottage housing, construction on substandard original lots of record, and townhouse construction.
"we've gotten some responses but we would like more because we're talking about ADUs, we're talking about infill, we're talking about types of development and things like that," Jennifer Stapleton told council members at a special council meeting on Jan. 11. "So those citizens who have been concerned and want to have their voice heard on those issues, the survey is a good opportunity to participate in what will be an ongoing discussion."
Results of the survey will go before the city Planning and Zoning Commission, which offers residents a great way to have their voice on the issue heard.
"Finding the right balance between protecting neighborhood quality of life and providing needed housing for current and future residents is the challenge that must be addressed by the comprehensive plan," city officials said.
