GOP leadership must open door to young, women

I am writing in regards to Becky Funk’s editorial of June 22, 2023. 

To the Republican Party of Idaho. Quit shooting yourself in the foot.

The party across America falls short because it has become a group of “Grumpy Old Men.” That has to end if there is any hope for a future. The Democrat Party knows where the votes come from. Young Americans, and dare I say female are indoctrinated to vote. The party that shows them they are part of the solution, not the problem, will win. 

The mentality of voting for the letter behind the name is long gone with easy access to information about a candidate from every direction. You can go online and find out what they had for dinner. Ms. Funk’s argument about the party trying to “kill” the vote of women and young voters as well will start making Idaho into California.  

I have watched this in another conservative state, “Alaska” where the party rejected women and young people. The majority in the legislature has changed because of this closed minded attitude. If I am offending the leadership of the Republican Party of Idaho, the truth often hurts but I speak from experience. 

To the Republican leadership, open the door to young people male and female, respect the contributions all of your council members have made, assure they are, and continue to be part of the process. If you don’t it will become a one party system and we have observed how that works throughout the world’s history.
