The Sandpoint 12U all-star team improved to 3-0 in District 1 tournament play by defeating Hayden 6-5 Sunday, and St. Maries 21-3 Monday at fields in Hayden and Coeur d’Alene. Sandpoint and Coeur d’Alene are the only two undefeated teams remaining.

Sandpoint’s Erik Hansen pitched four no-hit innings while striking out seven batters against Hayden. Hansen also led the all-stars at the plate going 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

After Hansen’s four innings on the mound, Sandpoint led 4-0 but Hayden would tie things up in the fifth, 4-4. Thanks to some disciplined plate appearances by Hansen and Brady Yarbrough, Sandpoint would plate two runs in the bottom of sixth to take the lead, but Hayden would not back down.

After Hayden loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the sixth, Sandpoint turned to Kaleb Bogdai who retired the side to help Sandpoint secure the 6-5 victory. As Gordon Woelfle caught the final out in right field, the team rushed around him and celebrated.

The team would carry that momentum into Monday’s matchup against St. Maries. Sandpoint dominated on all fronts, racking up 13 hits and 17 runs just after two innings of play. The team would ultimately go on to win 21-3.

All 12 players reached base for Sandpoint; nine players recorded base hits. Trevor Tadic led the all-stars going a perfect three-for-three with three runs scored and three RBIs. Bogadi also went three-for-three bringing home two runs and scoring twice.

The 12U Sandpoint All-stars will scrimmage Trail Little League of British Columbia on Wednesday at War Memorial Field before returning to District 1 tournament play. The all-star team will then face off against Coeur d’Alene on Friday at the Canfield Sports Complex.
