July 4, 1973 – MANY ENJOY FOURTH
As people lined streets decorated with American flags, the July 4 parade began, led by well-known photographer Ross Hall as parade marshal. There were Boy and Girl Scouts, a high school band with snappy marchers, antique cars, horses, clowns, floats, youth groups and big loads of logs. With the sun shining over Sandpoint, Independence Day was properly ushered in. Afterwards, some headed to the beach to participate in Lions-sponsored games and races. Others went home for a quick lunch before making the trek to Panhandle Raceways at Colburn for an afternoon of exciting stock car action. The carnival at the Old Farmin School site drew those who enjoy the thrill of action-packed rides. Whatever the case, each came with a spirit of celebration to wish the nation its 197th birthday.
