It's time to recall IFF-backed candidates

Over the last few years, Idaho GOP formulated legislation that has moved toward power over we the people. The West Bonner County School Board is a perfect example of this. Instead of listening to the community members, it is evident that three trustees have their own agenda in mind. These authoritarian board members care more about the egocentric agenda inspired (and possibly funded) by the Idaho Freedom Foundation than they do the working class they are supposed to represent.

The fact that the board majority hired Brandon Durst as our superintendent is making national news because it is an absolute disgrace. The attention our small town is receiving for this political stunt is embarrassing. The ideas the IFF-backed board members have in mind are not that of traditional conservative values.

It appears that the IFF and members of our school board have gotten so caught up in conspiracy theories and meaningless culture war issues, that they have been unable to function as a meaningful and community-centered school board. Good governance has eight major characteristics. It is participatory, consensus-oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective and efficient, fair and equitable, inclusive and follows the rule of law.

Our responsibility as citizens is to study issues, encourage non-extremist candidates, vote in elections, and demand recalls when we need them. Three trustees on our board do not demonstrate any of the above values, certainly not transparency or accountability.
