Lakers defeat Wenatchee, fall to Asotin in final games of Wood Bat Classic

The North Idaho Lakers legion baseball team finished with a 3-2 record at the Spokane Wood Bat Classic, after defeating the Wenatchee Valley Baseball Club 13-6, and falling to the Asotin County Blues 3-2 Sunday.

The Lakers came from behind and compiled a total of nine unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to capture the win against Wenatchee Valley. Dallen Williams led the charge at the plate going four-for-five with three RBIs. Soren Caprio and Mason Little also had big games — the two combined for seven out of the Lakers’ 13 RBIs, most of which were in the final two innings.

Parker Reichart received the win on the mound. The rising sophomore pitched five innings giving up five hits, two earned runs, two walks, and recording three strikeouts. Jorden Tyler was fantastic in relief giving up just one hit and fanning three batters in just two innings of work.

Immediately after defeating Wenatchee Valley, the Lakers took on the Asotin County Blues on the same field. The two teams combined only put up seven hits in the contest — four from the Lakers, three from Blues.

After going down 1-0 after the first inning, Tyler tripled to deep center field in the second and was eventually brought home by Zeke Roop to make the score 1-1. Neither team would score again until late in the game; the Blues would score two runs in the fifth while the Lakers would score one run in the sixth. The Lakers would fall just short, 3-2 after stranding runners on first and second in the final inning of play.

Sage Medeiros was tagged with the loss despite a great outing. Medeiros pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up two hits, two earned runs and five walks while striking out six batters. Dallen Williams was solid in relief going 1 2/3 innings giving up one hit, two walks, and striking out three batters.

The North Idaho Lakers (12-10) will be back in action at the 18U Northwest Blazer Tournament held in Rathdrum and Spokane July 7-9.
