July 6, 1973 – NO MORE RIDES FOR TOBY
The Bill Currie’s dog, Toby, was sneaking away f
om home for long periods of time last week, so they checked the situation out. It seemed Toby left their apartment in the Panida Theatre building for a more exciting time at the B & D Shows. The dog was riding the merry-go-round and had been chased off the ride several times. Toby is now grounded.

FOREST SERVICE CONSOLIDATION
Twenty-four Kaniksu National Forest employees will have either moved to Coeur d’Alene, transferred to Bonners Ferry, retired or resigned when the forest reorganization process is complete on July 8. The changes are the result of the consolidation of the Kaniksu, St. Joe and Coeur d’Alene Forests into a system now known as the Idaho Panhandle National Forests, with its center in Coeur d’Alene and former Kaniksu supervisor Ralph Kizer as its administrator.

July 6, 1948 – FISHING IMPROVED
While no catches of large fish were reported from resorts about the lake over the July Fourth holiday, fishing conditions have improved in general, with good catches of bluebacks, along with a fair percentage of cutthroats and some Dolly Vardens. Stream fishermen also found improved fishing as the water dropped in the tributaries of Pend Oreille. Good catches of small fish were reported from upper Pack river, Grouse Creek, Rapid Lightning, Big Lightning, Trout creek and other streams.

HEALTH DEPT. OKEHS STEPS TAKEN
Sandpoint is taking adequate steps to meet the health situation as aftermath of the high water condition, in the opinion of H. Clare, Boise, director of public health engineering. He agrees with the use of chloroben, a powerful disinfectant and deodorant, which has been used by the fire department to spray all areas flooded by the high water. The Community hall was one of the first buildings to get a treatment, as water had invaded the basement and the yard south of the hall. Chloroben also kills mosquito larvae when used in sufficient quantities.
