July 13, 1973 – 60TH ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ames of Dover celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family picnic at their Dover home. The couple was married July 2, 1913 in Sandpoint and has lived in Dover and vicinity the past 50 years. They have three sons, Merle, Rolland, and Jack, all of Dover, and three daughters, Mrs. Bill (Dorothy) Henry, Rapid Lightning Creek, Mrs. Ralph (Violet) Peterson and Mrs. Kenneth (Lorna) Karst, both of Dover, as well as 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

CITY TO NEGOTIATE WITH BANK
Negotiations are underway between city officials and Idaho First National Bank for purchase of the west two-thirds of the Old Farmin School grounds in downtown Sandpoint. The action follows a decision by the City Council to pursue an offer of an $85,000 selling price for the property. The council resolved to “move quickly” on the possibility, with the goal of establishing a parking lot in the area. The site would provide room for an additional 116 automobiles.

TAKE STEPS TO EASE HAY PROBLEM
County extension agent Raynold Davis said concerted efforts by his office and the Agricultural Stabilization Committee are being applied to find solutions to the unusual lack of hay this year. Davis said there is a strong possibility North Idaho will be declared a disaster area for feed supplies.

July 13, 1948 – AT ANNAPOLIS!
Jack Derr, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Derr of Clarksfork, is at Annapolis where he entered as a midshipman. He was a student at the U of I for the past year. Besides qualifying for Annapolis, he had passed all examinations for entrance to West Point.

AT SUN VALLEY SHOOT
Mr. and Mrs. S.O. Maxwell and two sons, and Mrs. R.S. Dawes of Bozeman returned Sunday evening from Sun Valley, where Mr. Maxwell participated in the Idaho state trapshooting tournament.

BATHING BEACH OPENED TO SWIMMING
City beach has been reopened to swimming. The water dropped and cleared so rapidly the past week that conditions are now considered favorable. There will be no Red Cross swimming campaign due to the lateness of the season. The beach house, covered nearly to the eaves with water, was badly damaged.

NORTH SIDE NEWS
Pat McManus, Norman Nelson, Kenneth Tompson and Vernon Schulze enjoyed a camping trip up on Switzer creek (sic). They stayed two nights.
The Marys and Marthas club met at the Terrell home Thursday. The extension agent spoke on canning and home freezer locker storage.
Senius Eilertsen and daughter, JoAnn, made a sightseeing trip to southern Idaho over the Fourth. JoAnn got a case of poison ivy on their trip.
