Lakers ‘jump’ into district playoffs – here is where they stand
The North Idaho Lakers (10-9, 6-4) were able to clinch the No. 3 seed heading into District Single A Legion playoffs which will be held at War Memorial Field July 14-17. After a tough regular season schedule, the boys are primed to make a deep run in the tournament.
The Lakers have split games with both the No. 1 seed CDA Lumbermen and the No. 2 seed Northern Lakes. In fact, the team has split a series with every team in the district except St. Maries who they swept in mid-June. The only team the Lakers have yet to face off against — the Camas Prairie Zephyrs.
The Lakers first game will be against the No. 6 seed Camas Prairie Zephyrs today at 1:45 p.m. If victorious, the team will face the winner of St. Maries/Northern Lakes at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. If defeated, the Lakers will head to the loser’s bracket where they will have to win out to survive; the district tournament is structured in a double elimination format. The full schedule can be found attached to the online version of this article.
North Idaho has been involved in tons of close games this season, and that experience is likely to come in handy this weekend. Six out the teams’ nine losses were by two runs or less. Led by Dallen Williams, Brent Campbell, Zeke Roop and Parker Reichart, the Lakers proved to have one of the best pitching staffs in the district tournament this year. At the plate, Greysen Johnson, Mason Little and Jorden Tyler have been swinging hot bats and will be key to the Lakers’ success this weekend.
