Don't stay home in WBCSD recall vote

| July 19, 2023 1:00 AM

I recently viewed a video by the opposition to the recall of Chairman Keith Rutledge and co-chair Susan Brown. I have to comment.

The most offensive thing to me was the mention of bullying and it led to a suicide. I'm sure the family involved is trying to put that happening behind them. They don't need to be reminded by someone's distasteful mention of it.

Bullying has many forms. The mention of our teachers not deserving 4%. That is bullying. I know a lot of the teachers in our system. I watched many of them go through our system and become excellent teachers. My neighbors, when I lived in Laclede, had three daughters go through our system and came back to teach here. One of them brought a husband with her who also became a well-loved instructor. Another one's spouse became a part of our transportation system. I was proud to know these individuals.

There are many others educated here that came back to share their skill. Most of our teachers are loved by the students and we love having them here. Having some board members say distasteful things about our teachers is very unprofessional. I define it as bullying.

It also was mentioned in that presentation that Rutledge won by seven votes. He attributed that to God. I don't think God pays much attention to voting results. I believe He is busy helping people in different ways. I think it was because eight voters should not have stayed home, did so, thinking their vote wasn't needed.

So, voters, on the recall vote day, don't stay home. In an earlier letter, I challenged our community to have a 90% turnout. Let's do it.
