NEWPORT — The city is taking part in National Night Out, Newport officials said.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make the area a safer and more caring place to live and work, Lyndsie R. Halcro, Newport deputy city clerk-treasurer, said.

The city will celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 1, on the corner of Union and Third Street. Halcro said city officials will close Third Street for the event and will provide hot dogs, water and popsicles for the public to enjoy.

"This is a family-friendly event that will include allowing the public to see equipment from law enforcement agencies of the area and meet local service providers," she said.

If anyone would like to donate to the event or want to know more information about the event, please contact Newport City Hall by emailing at CityofNewport@newport-wa.org or call 509-447-5611.

"Residents are encouraged to get to know their local law enforcement agencies, neighbors and resources," Halcro said. "We hope to see you there!"
