The Sandpoint Sasquatch 14U travel baseball team won the Prairie League Playoff Tournament held July 13-15 at Post Falls High School.

The team defeated Hayden Storm 14U, Moscow Generals 14U twice, and the River City Thunder 14U in the championship. The Sasquatch outscored their opponents 56-16 during the tournament and won 14 out of their last 17 games.

“The boys were disciplined at the plate, aggressive on the bases, had some strong pitching and played great defense,” coach John Aexel said. “It was a team effort from the first pitch to the end of the tournament. The boys earned the championship.”

In pool play, the Sasquatch defeated the Hayden Storm 12-3, and Moscow Generals 11-2. Against Hayden, Brennan Shaw led the team at the plate going 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. Andrew Aexel and Bode Eacret also had multi-hit efforts. Against Moscow, four Sasquatch pitchers — Carson Resso, Logan Iverson, Daniel Vincent and Eacret — gave up just four hits over six innings.

With those two wins, the Sasquatch clinched the No. 1 seed heading into bracket play. The team faced off against Moscow and defeated them once again, this time 14-5. Five Sasquatch had multiple RBIs in the contest; Resso led the way going 2-for-3 with two singles and three RBIs.

In the championship, the team continued to dominate by defeating River City, 19-6. The Sasquatch put up 14 runs in the first two innings and never looked back. Shaw, Resso, Austyn Young and Bryce Lee combined for 12 of the Sasquatch’s 15 RBIs.

The Sandpoint Sasquatch 14U will continue to compete in various tournaments in North Idaho throughout the summer season.
