Summer Music Series welcomes BBV today

| July 20, 2023 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The community is invited to head over to Farmin Park today for a genre-bending band from New Orleans.

The latest band welcomed to town as part of the Sandpoint Summer Music Series, Bon Bon Vivant melds everything from singer/songwriter music, pop and Americana to dark ballads and up-tempo indie dance music.

You can try and pick out the band's diverse influences, but as they note on their website, they would prefer folks just listen to the music.

The free concert will begin at 6 p.m. in Farmin Park, located on Oak Street between Third and Fourth avenues.

"The Sandpoint Summer Music series is Sandpoint's only family friendly and free music series," said Alex Cope, Mattox Farm Productions promotion lead.

The free concerts are made possible because of community sponsors, including the Pend Oreille Arts Council, Ting, Washington Trust Bank, Selle Design Group, Heartwood Center, KPND, Ziply Fiber, and Cedar Street Hotel and Suites, as well as a host of others.

The concerts, the brainchild of Mattox Farm Productions, are in their fourth year. The first concert, held in June, welcomed Heels to the Hardood. An Aug. 10 concert will welcome the B-Side Players and the Sept. 7 concert is "Locals Night" and features Headwaters and the Monday Night Blues Crew.

Each concert features great music as well as food and beverage vendors, Cope said.

BBV said their original music is rooted in storytelling and pays homage to the unique New Orleans sound while adding in their own indie flavor. Their songs are joyous, fierce, honest and heartbreaking — all at the same times sometimes — as they chronicle life and all it entails.

Bon Bon Vivant is made up of Abigail Cosio, songwriter and front-woman; Jeremy Kelley, saxophonist and vocalist; Jason Jurzak, sousaphone and bass; and Deacon Marrquin, drums and percussion.

The band was named Best Emerging Artist in 2018 by Off Beat Magazine and BBV regularly plays in New Orleans, with upcoming performances at French Quarter Fest, Jazz Fest, Bayou Boogaloo. A second full-length studio album is expected to be released in the near future.
