SANDPOINT — The annual Sandpoint Tennis Camp returned to Travers Park this week with athletes attending from near and far.

A total of 29 student-athletes, mostly from Sandpoint High School, but some from Colorado and California, took to the courts for various drills and tournaments. Pepper Rickert won the hard courts tennis tournament, the ‘Rollers’ won the team tournament, and Sydney Webb took home a special edition tennis racket for all of her hard work.

Rising SHS freshman Pepper Rickert took the hard courts tournament title for the third straight year on Wednesday. She defeated Carl Siegel from Denver, Colo., in an impressive, hard-hitting match. Siegel is a 1-star recruit and qualified for the Colorado state championship this past fall. The 29-player tournament used a tie-breaker format for each match which put maximum pressure on each player to attack early and limit their mistakes. Rickert was able to maintain her composure long enough to defeat Siegel 7-2 in the championship match.

In the team tournament, the Rollers defeated the Bombers 53-50 on Thursday. The winning team players included: Bella Bailey, Pax Longanecker, Aubrey Knowles, Sydney Webb, Pepper Rickert, Cyrus Gayer, Hayden Mah, Mason Blaser, Porter Jensen and Jacob Dawson. Coach Kent Anderson said the Bombers always win, but this year proved to be different with the renowned Dunlop trophy in the hands of the Rollers. Sydney Webb won the most games in the team tournament and was awarded a Dunlop Limited Edition SX 300 tennis racket.
