Stanley (Doug) Jones, 82

| July 23, 2023 1:00 AM

Stanley Douglas (Doug) Jones was born Feb. 7, 1942, at Lost River, Idaho, to Verl and Lottie (Crosby) Jones. He began his eternal journey on July 12, 2023.

Doug joined an already large family of six brothers and sisters. There would be two more sisters and a brother to follow.

The family of farmers moved from Arco, Idaho, to Priest River, Idaho, in the spring of 1948. They had acquired a large timbered property southeast of town on the Dufort Road; here they raised and grew most everything necessary to feed such a large family. They also learned how to work in the woods and operate all the necessary equipment. Doug would use these skills on and off throughout his life.

After high school graduation in 1960 he joined the Navy and was trained as a ship’s electrician. He served during the Cuban missile crisis and was honorably discharged in 1964.

Many adventures were had while he served in the Merchant Marines sailing on cargo ships from Pacific ports to distant landings in Japan and other ports in the region. He also spent many years as a long-haul truck driver visiting all lower 48 states.

His greatest happiness was being "at home" in the Priest River areas with his small group of trusted friends, working on his farm or in the woods.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents and the six older siblings. He is survived by his only child, Jason; his wife, Stacie; and grandchildren Ally and Tyler, two sisters and one brother.

A memorial service will be held in the fall.
