July 27, 1973 – BEACH BBQ SUNDAY
Barbecued beef and all the trimmings, prepared by noted local chefs, will be the menu for Sunday’s annual Lions Beach Barbecue, served from 1-8 p.m. At 1:20 p.m., four F101 jets will fly over the area and perform 10 minutes of aerobatics. A 6-man group will give a water-skiing display using special kites all afternoon. Also scheduled is a sky diving show by five parachutists, each making a minimum of three jumps. Other planned activities include bingo, horse shoe pitching, water skiing and the dunking tank. All funds raised support the Lions beach project.

EDELHAUS DRIVE-IN OPENING AT HOPE
Casual dining out front or on the deck with a wide open view of Lake Pend Oreille is in store for food lovers visiting the new Edelhaus Drive-In at Hope. Owners Dave and Dona Meehan and Max and Bev Wiley will hold a grand opening Sunday for the new eatery featuring Bavarian decor and German food.

FIRST CHRISTIAN BREAKS GROUND
Ground breaking ceremonies for a new church will be held by First Christian Church members at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The new building on Division St. just north of Coffelt Funeral Home, will have seating for 320, with aisles wide enough to eventually hold 450. The present church [Cedar & Forest], built in 1909, seats 105. Trustees Floyd Perks, Jerry Neumann, John Holzemer, Ken Holt, and Dale Coffelt assisted Pastor Charles Wigton in the planning phases.

July 27, 1948 – VISITS PARENTS’ HOME
Miss Della Clark of Everett visited here last week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Clark, and her brother, Dave [“Buck”] Clark Jr. She is employed in the county auditor’s office at Everett.

BARBARA BROWN HAS PARTY
Barbara Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Brown, celebrated her sixth birthday Friday. Her guests enjoyed movies and the traditional ice cream and cake, with favors for all. Guests included Anne and Halley King, Ellen Barlow, Frances Rogers, Benny and Joe Haynes, Mary Kay Carlson, Bobby and Rickie Snodgrass, Teddy Farmin, Michael McFarland and Dickie and Terry Moore.

SCOUTS ON CRUISE
Eight Sandpoint Boy Scouts left Saturday for Seattle where they boarded a former coast guard boat for a week’s cruise of Alaskan waters. Part of the “crew” of 25 Boy Scouts were Bill Cady, Dick Thompson, Bob Sell, Don Williams, Jimmy Van Sant, Bob Parsons, Alva Reeves and Walter Hardin.
