Library program helps make natural connections
Are you looking for some activities for your body and mind this weekend? Are you tired of having your zen frazzled by pushing through groups of people crowding your normal summer spot? Come to the Sandpoint library garden Saturday, Aug. 5, for a slate of programs geared towards restoring your zen in a natural space.
Stop by at any point in the day to see the incredible work the library’s garden coordinator, Anna, has put into the space over the past several months. This space is filled with edible and medicinal plants, as well as a number of native plants perfectly suited for our area. This is a great space that you’re free to enter at any time to relax, read a book, or catch up on a few emails away from the hustle and bustle of a busy cafe.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Aug. 5, join author Brietta Leader for a blended program of movement, journaling and sharing. Explore the 12 Keys to Unlock Your Untamed Expression. This 90-minute program will be followed by the author’s book signing.
At 12 p.m., join Ali Thomas in a percussion play shop geared toward anyone eight years of age and older. A hands-on opportunity to play a variety of ethnic instruments and discover your rhythm, while getting a taste of West African music.
Starting at 1 p.m., join Henry and Laura Clemmons of Tendril Apothecary & Healing Center for tips to improve your mental and physical wellness. Learn about using medicinal herbs from your own garden and make a folk-style tincture to take home. Did you know that the bulk of major pharmaceuticals are made from medicinal plants, including herbs and fungi?
Wrap up the day at 3 p.m. with Yoga with Drew, a Vinyasa Yoga class open to anyone that occurs weekly at the library. Experience the nature around you in the library garden, stretch your muscles and enjoy a few moments of peace in our busy lives.
Stop by for any or all of these programs Saturday, Aug. 5 at the library garden. Not sure where the garden is? Just exit the library building, turn right and walk towards the wooden fence. A display of native plants are there to welcome you in, and let you know that you’re in the right place.
