SANDPOINT – After losing 4-2 to the CDA Lumbermen on the road on Thursday, the North Idaho Lakers split a pair of close games at Pine Street Field on Friday.

The Lakers defeated the Northern Lakes Mountaineers 5-3 in Game 1, and were defeated by the Mountaineers 4-2 in Game 2.

In Game 1, the Lakers scored early and often. In the first inning, Dallen Williams stole home on a Mountaineers error for the first run of the game. In the second, the Lakers added two more runs as both Soren Caprio and Coleman Inge crossed home plate on a passed ball and a fielder’s choice, respectively.

In the fifth inning, the Lakers tacked on two runs thanks to an RBI double by Jorden Tyler and an RBI single by Zeke Roop, 5-2 Lakers. The Mountaineers would not be able to mount a comeback.

Sage Medeiros was dealing on the mound in his first start of the season. He was able to grab the win over 4 2/3 innings on the mound giving up just four hits, two runs, three walks, and six strikeouts. Roop also hurled a solid 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and one run while striking out two batters.

In Game 2, it was a nail-biter until the very end. The Mountaineers were leading 2-0 until Inge doubled to left field to score Roop in the fourth inning. In the fifth, the Lakers tied the game when Williams hit an RBI single to center, 2-2. The Mountaineers then broke the tie with two runs in the top of seventh inning to seal the 4-2 victory.

Tyler was dominant on the mound for the Lakers going four innings and giving up just two hits, two runs, and striking out seven batters. Alex Leverich pitched three innings in relief giving up four hits and two runs while striking out three.

The Lakers will be back in action June 9-11 at the 17U Premier Sports Invitational in Coeur d’Alene.
