NEW MEMORIAL CONCRETE POURED
Artist Russ Kotschevar showed up to watch the work on his design, as concrete was poured Tuesday for a new pylon at the War Memorial adjacent to War Memorial Field. The form, 36” square at the base, 8” square at the top, and 22 ft. 8” tall, made it impossible to pour the material in the normal way. Reg Batchelor, who has a special machine for pumping concrete through a hose, teamed up with Dockins Pre-Mix to do the job. Three yards of concrete went into the form. This was done slowly, as the nature of the job prevented any steel ties through the forms. Another eight yards have gone into the footings, which will also support a rock wall. Three fiberglass poles in red, white and blue, will be part of the completed memorial.
