Contra dance set for Friday
SANDPOINT — Community dancing for all ages is what it’s all about as a contra dance will be held Friday, June 9.
The dance, which will be held from 7-10 p.m. at Sandpoint Community Hall. Live music by the Accidental Harmonies; Emily Faulkner calling.
Contra dancing is a sister of square dancing and shares many figures, but the figures are danced in long lines, or occasionally big circles, instead of squares. Always set to live music, each dance is taught during a couple of “walk-throughs” and called with the music.
As well as contra dances, there is an occasional waltz or polka.
New dancers are welcome; participants are asked to try to be on time for the first dance. In Sandpoint, the first few dances of every evening are especially beginner-friendly. Dancers often change dance partners between dances, and anyone may ask anyone to dance, so you don’t need to bring a dance partner.
Bring a water bottle (the kind you’ll take home); wear cool comfortable clothes and bring non-marking dance shoes to change into once inside.
Contra dances are held at Sandpoint Community Hall every second Friday of the month (except August). A $5 donation is requested.
