15th annual Sand Creek Paddlers Challenge successful

| June 7, 2023 1:00 AM

The Sand Creek Paddlers Challenge took place Saturday, June 3 at Sandpoint City Beach. This year marked the 15th consecutive year the event has been held.

Roughly 40 paddlers took to the water in different types of watercrafts early Saturday morning. All different types of kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes competed in the four-mile race.

The event is held for fun, but some racers like to tap into their competitive side. Awards are given to those that place first in their respective watercraft divisions. The event has four separate divisions: two race divisions, solo and tandem; a recreation division for those who don’t want to leave a wake; and a SUP (stand up paddleboard) division. Random drawings are held for those who compete recreationally.

For other activities offered by Sandpoint Parks and Rec, visit their web catalog at www.sandpointidaho.gov/your-government/departments/parks-recreation, or visit the office located at 1123 Lake St.
