CHIPMUNK WANTED HOME FOR BROOD
A seemingly tame chipmunk was found attempting a break-in at Sears Store on First Ave. Saturday. The lad who found it soon learned his father wasn’t going to allow any animals around the house, so the chipmunk was hurried off to Pets and Pottery, a pet shop recently opened on First. Daisy Reynolds, the proprietor, discovered the reason for the animal’s apparent urgency, as the next day, she gave birth to four babies. Mother and family are doing well.

June 13, 1948 – NEWS FROM CLARK FORK
Highway 10A is closed, covered by water about two feet deep for over two miles west of town. Parts of the road east of the village are also covered. The Clarksfork river and backwater from the lake have inundated hundreds of acres of fertile soil. Several homes of the valley are isolated by muddy flood waters and many homes near the river have been evacuated. Most of the livestock has been driven to higher levels but a few animals still stand on island-like knolls in a wide expanse of water. Fish leap at doorsteps and ducks swim across placid fields.
