Local PEO chapter supports young women with scholarships
Sandpoint has two active chapters of P.E.O., Chapter CA and Chapter V, which have encouraged and supported young women in our community for over half a century. P.E.O. Chapter CA recently awarded scholarships to two local seniors who personify the organization’s ideals of faith, love, justice, truth, and purity in heart and spirit. Founded in 1869 with the motto “Women helping women reach for the stars,” P.E.O. is an international philanthropic educational organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, and loans; act as stewards of Cottey College; and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
P.E.O. Chapter CA is made up of more than 40 local women of diverse ages and backgrounds dedicated to helping young women continue their education in a myriad of ways, to improve their lives so they can, in turn, give back to the world and their communities in their own unique ways. Funds for local scholarships are partly raised through proceeds from annual fundraising events, most of which were postponed or canceled these past three years due to the pandemic.
The members of PEO Chapter CA remain committed to awarding scholarships and wish to congratulate and celebrate the following young women for their accomplishments and the future plans they are embarking on this fall:
• Adeline Henney, Sandpoint High School, is attending Utah Tech University in St. George, Utah, to study environmental sciences.
• Emily Myers, Clark Fork High School, will major in biological engineering at the University of Idaho in Moscow this fall.
