SANDPOINT — The North Idaho Lakers defeated the St. Maries Savages in both games of a doubleheader at War Memorial Field on Monday. The Lakers won the first game 14-2, and the second game 17-6.

The Lakers got off to a slow start Monday, but that all changed in the bottom of the third inning when the team scored 10 runs. Seven different players recorded hits in the inning; Jorden Tyler recorded two singles in the inning as the Lakers were able to bat around in the order. Tyler and Mason Little both led the team with four RBIs each in Game 1.

Tyler also threw a fantastic game on the mound. The rising junior pitched all five innings for the Lakers, giving up just two hits, two runs, three walks and striking out nine batters.

The Lakers carried their momentum into Game 2 and continued to dominate St. Maries. 10 different players reached base in the contest. Parker Reichart batted in four runs overall. Greyson Johnson and Jayden Kuprienko batted in three each. Jacob Aexel was the only other Laker to record multiple hits besides Reichart; he went 2-for-3 with a single, double, and two RBIs.

On the mound, Kuprienko threw a 1-2-3 final inning to close out the 11-run victory.

The Lakers will be back in action for a doubleheader versus Lewiston on Friday afternoon at War Memorial Field. The team will then turn around and compete in a doubleheader Saturday morning against Orofino, also at War Memorial Field.
