WTC hosting Apprenticeship Job Fair

| June 14, 2023 1:00 AM

North Idaho College’s Workforce Training Center Apprenticeship Program Job Fair will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, June 30 at the NIC Parker Technical Education Center in Rathdrum.

Participants can tour facilities and meet with employers ahead of the July 1 opening of Fall registration for the apprenticeship program.

“Employers will be there hiring. Participants can get a job first, and then enroll as an apprentice the following day,” NIC Workforce Training Center Apprenticeship Programs Manager Brenda Hamilton said. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in being an apprentice to learn everything they need to know about the program and meet employers face-to-face.”

Hamilton said NIC Workforce Training Center staff members will also be on-hand to guide participants through both the registration process as well as give instruction on how to sign up for the Idaho LAUNCH program, which can fund up to 90% of the apprenticeship.

The job fair is specifically for apprenticeship programs offered through the NIC Workforce Training Center in the trades — Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Construction and Heavy Equipment, though WTC also offers apprenticeships in Medical Assistant and Dental Assistant.

“You don’t need to register or RSVP for the job fair – just show up and we’ll get you started,” Hamilton said.

NIC Workforce Training Center was recently recognized through the national Apprenticeship Ambassador Initiative, launched in 2021 by the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Department of Education. As an Apprenticeship Ambassador, NIC Workforce Training Center will join a select group of educational institutions nationwide that serve as models for successful implementation.

“We are thrilled to be selected as an Apprenticeship Ambassador and join a national network of institutions dedicated to advancing apprenticeship opportunities,” Hamilton said. “This recognition reflects our commitment to workforce development and our ongoing efforts to foster partnerships with employers, empowering individuals with the skills needed for successful careers.”

There are still spots open for employers in related trades that wish to participate in the job fair.
