SANDPOINT – The North Idaho Lakers split a doubleheader against the 18U Orofino Merchants Saturday at War Memorial Field, winning the first game 19-9, but falling in the second, 9-3.

In Game 1, the Lakers were unstoppable on the base path with the entire starting lineup recording at least one hit in the contest. Coleman Inge put together a tremendous effort going three-for-three with a triple, two singles, five RBIs, and two walks. Mason Little also caught fire going three-for-four with two doubles, a single, and three RBIs. Six different Lakers had multi-hit efforts and the team recorded 18 hits overall in the game The Lakers did the majority of their damage in the bottom of the fourth when they put up 10 runs.

Sage Medeiors kept his composure together on the mound and was able to bring home another win on the season. Medeiors went four innings giving up 11 hits and six earned runs while striking out four batters. Zeke Roop also threw a clean inning in relief to secure the 19-9 victory.

In Game 1, the Lakers only had one blemish – giving up eight runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Lakers couldn’t seem to stop the Merchants from rallying; all three of their errors occurred in the second.

However, the Lakers out-hit the Merchants 11-7 in the second game as the majority of their starting lineup again got on base. Jorden Tyler was able to get on base in all four of his plate appearances going two-for-two with two singles, an RBI, and two walks. Hayden Miller hit around the only other RBI for the Lakers in Game 2.

On the mound, Tyler started things off going 1 2/3 innings giving up five hits, three earned runs, and two walks. Parker Reichart threw a solid 4 1/3 innings in relief giving up just one hit, six walks, and one run. Roop, per usual, finished things off with another clean last inning of play.

The Lakers (6-6, 2-2) will be back in action against the CDA Lumbermen on Tuesday at War Memorial Field.
