Board's agenda out of step with community
I am writing as a parent/alumni of the West Bonner County School District. We believe in strong community and support our public schools. Recently, however, our school board trustees seem to have an agenda other than what is best for our schools and our children.
I am writing specifically with concerns regarding Mr. Branden Durst. Mr. Durst is not qualified to be certified as a superintendent in the state of Idaho and works for the Idaho Freedom Foundation. Mr. Durst faced child abuse claims, and has a social media presence that is aggressive, unprofessional and a terrible model for our children. He was also condemned by the Idaho Republican Party. The community has been outspoken in their opposition to hiring Mr. Durst; however, three trustees of the WBCSD school board have blatantly ignored this community.
Mrs. Luckey has taught school in WBCSD since 1984, has been a dedicated teacher, principal, and has been filling in the role of interim superintendent. She also received her provisional superintendent certificate on June 14, making her the only qualified candidate. This was made clear repeatedly by the community at board meetings, via email and phone calls.
The three board members in question, however, continue to ignore their constituents and seem to have an agenda that is not in line with our community’s values. We need to ensure that this board is held accountable.
We are talking about our children and we will be not be ignored. Our voice needs to be heard.
