Noxious Weed Board hosting workshop
The Pend Oreille County Noxious Weed Board is again hosting its free Neighborhood Cost Share Workshop, which includes a full lineup of expert speakers.
“This workshop is held each year to kick off our Neighborhood Cost Share program in the spring, giving our landowners a more cost-effective way to manage their weeds,” said Mary Malone, education and outreach specialist for the Weed Board. “There will be a lot of great information from speakers this year and we are excited to see everyone. There will, of course, also be a virtual option again for those unable to attend in person.”
The NCS program provides cost share with landowners who form weed management groups at 50% of the management costs, with a cap of $500 per group. Eligible costs include applying weed prevention principles such as fertilizing, planting competitive vegetation, applying herbicides, hiring contractors and more. Applications are accepted annually in March through April. Cost share funds are limited, so it is first-come, first-served.
The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 11 at the Camas Center in Usk, as well as virtually. This year’s topics include toxic plants, weed identification, laws, forestry and soil health. There will be lunch and other refreshments available for in-person attendees, as well as a door prize raffle. Pesticide recertification credits will be available for Idaho and Washington attendees who hold a pesticide license.
